London attracts so many visitors from around the world that it needs to have five airports to accommodate them all. What follows is a brief overview of each of those airports and details of how you can travel between them and Central London.

Heathrow Airport – Heathrow is London’s largest airport and is the world’s busiest for international passengers. It has five terminals and acts as a regional base to more than 90 airlines, which fly to over 150 destinations worldwide. It is located 22km west of Central London. The cheapest way to get to Central London from Heathrow is by using the London Underground. The journey takes less than an hour – though it will depend on your final destination – and costs around $6.

Gatwick Airport – Gatwick, located 45km south of the city center, is London’s second-largest airport. It is the main hub for discount and charter airlines. The journey from Gatwick Airport to central London, takes anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes depending on traffic. To avoid potential traffic problems, you might want to consider a train instead, which will take you directly from the airport to Victoria Station.

Stansted Airport – Stansted is the definition of a budget airline hub but, despite the limited number of airlines, it is still London’s third busiest airport. It is located 48km northeast of the city center and there are convenient and reliable bus and train connections between the two. Stansted Bus and easyBus all would be your best options – they both send vehicles between the airport and Victoria Station, with the option to jump off at Marble Arch or Baker Street if you prefer.

Luton Airport – This small airport operates a single runway for the use of budget airlines traveling to and from European destinations. Located in the county of Bedfordshire 55km north of London, Luton Airport takes a while to get to and there may be more than one bus journey needed depending on your starting point. There are several round the clock bus services to and from London though, mostly run by Green Line and easyBus.

London City Airport – This is London’s smallest airport. The main users of it are business travelers as it is located so close to London’s financial district Canary Wharf. It is actually just 11km southeast of the city center. London City Airport only is compromised of just one runway and can not accommodate all types of planes (only those able to do short take-offs and landings). Getting to Central London is easy and convenient thanks to the Docklands Light Railway (DLR).

As an alternative, if you do not fancy flying directly into London, you can also fly to Birmingham Airport or Manchester Airport. Both of those are international airports are centrally located in the UK, meaning that you can reach either London or the north of the country in just a few hours.

Plane Stupid Manchester Airport Action BBC News

Climate change protesters have cut through a perimeter fence at Manchester Airport in the UK and chained themselves to the wheels of an aircraft in protest against the planned expansion of the airport’s worldwide freight terminal.

The protest started at around 07:00 when six protesters gained access to the airfield by cutting a hole in the perimeter fence. A further group of around 10 protesters hoisted a banner reading ‘More air freight = more climate change – Stop all airport expansion now’ was raised by another group of around 10 protesters at the airport entrance. Luckily flights were only disrupted for about 20 minutes while security dealt with the intrusion.

The airport freight terminal currently processes around 170,000 tonnes of inbound and outbound freight every year. By 2015 the airport expects to increase that amount to around 250,000 tonnes per year.

A spokesperson for the environmental protest group Plane Stupid, who were responsible for the action, has said that the local-council owned airport has kept residents in the dark over plans to increase the freight handling capacity. The environmental campaigners claim that the proposed expansion makes no sense economically nor environmentally and that it is likely to mean that some people’s homes would be demolished The group say that the current freight handling capacity is under-utilised and that expanding this facility would act as a stepping stone toward expanding the airport as a whole, which would be an environmental disaster.

This latest action has come at a time when campaigners have claimed a victory after a high court judge has ordered a climate change review regarding the planned expansion of Heathrow airport.

The tactics employed by the Plane Stupid campaigners have received some criticism. The Plane Stupid action group are responsible for disrupting the travel plans of many thousands of people. The actions of this protest group have highlighted serious security issues at various British airports. Since it is apparently easy for a group of peaceful protesters to gain access to an aircraft can we be confident that others with more sinister intentions are not doing the same?

For great savings on Manchester Airport Parking always book in advance. And why not consider booking a Manchester Airport hotel to make the most of your journey? And be certain that you have adequate travel insurance for your trip.

Inside The Airbus A380

Emirates Airlines have announced that Manchester airport will be the first regional airport to routinely land the A380 superjumbo aircraft. It is planned that the superjumbo, which can carry up to 517 passengers, will be used in daily flights from Manchester to Dubai.

It has been said that the Airbus A380 is the future of flying, but many have expressed concerns based upon reliability and economy issues.

The aircraft began to experience problems even before its first flight in 2007. Enthusiasm for the superjumo is not very high with airlines and only around 25 have been delivered since it was launched.

The A380 airbus boasts a number of design enhancements that should have made it a popular choice with airlines. It is much quieter than its competitors, due to advanced wing and undercarriage design. It is also much more fuel efficient due to the use of weight saving composite materials and exhaust emissions are enormously reduced.

Both Emirates airlines and Quantas have expressed concern over the aircraft’s reliability. Quantas experienced some high profile problems when all three of their A380 aircraft were grounded and declared unserviceable due to fuel tank indicator system problems.

Many commercial airlines have suffered due to the recession. This has led to the cancellation of orders for the A380 from the likes of: Lufthansa, Virgin Airlines, Thai Airways, Fed Ex and others.

But Manchester airport have gone ahead and spent around £10 million on upgrading the airfield and terminal buildings to accommodate the super-size aircraft. Emirates airlines currently use Boeing 777 aircraft for their Manchester to Dubai service.

Tim Clark, Emirates Airline president has said: “Manchester has been one of the strongest performers in our growing network of regional gateways, not only in the UK but globally. Our customers value our commitment to a regional network at a time when other airlines are abandoning them.”

So it’s looking like this new iconic jet is set to become as much an eye-catching fixture at Manchester airport as it is at Heathrow and other busy international hubs.

Save money when traveling by booking your Manchester airport parking, Gatwick parking or Heathrow parking spaces well in advance.

Theft Report from LAX

In these days of cut-price airlines you may think that the most important consideration when choosing an airline is price. While this is, without doubt, the top of most priority lists there are many other factors to bear in mind.

But price is, for most travelers, the most significant factor to consider. But the cheapest flight may not mean the cheapest journey. Having to travel to the airport will add to the journey costs. And if you then need to travel some distance from your arrival airport to your final destination this will add significantly to the overall cost.

Also, take into account what is included in the ticket price along with what is excluded. You will need to factor in the cost of refreshment if food and drink are excluded.

Its worth looking at how flexible your airline is with regard to departure dates and times? Tickets are always more expensive at weekends so weekday tickets would be a more economical option. Does your airline offer weekday flights at significantly lower cost than at the weekend.

Something else to consider is the airlines timekeeping performance. Statistics are generally available for most airlines so how does your proposed airline compare to others when it comes to late departures and arrivals. Your intended airline may offer cheap tickets but they may also be very poor at timekeeping.

Another aspect of your proposed airline that would bear investigation is their lost luggage statistics. Do they lose more luggage than other airlines? Losing your luggage can be enormously expensive, not to mention inconvenient, so it’s a false economy to go with a cheap airline that is notorious for losing luggage.

Its also worth finding out if an airline is guilty of over-booking. These days, over-booking is becoming increasingly common-place. Passengers turn up for their flights only to find that their isn’t a seat for them due to over-booking.

It should be clear that to choose the best airline takes time and research. The more research you can do, the more you will find out and the better informed you will be when it comes to making your selection.

You can save money when driving to the airport by booking your Manchester airport parking, Gatwick Parking or Heathrow Parking in advance.

Air safety involves many aspects. First, it alludes to the idea of keeping all airlines operating correctly. Second , it relates to the issue of keeping the airplane and passengers on board safe from lunatics and terrorists.

Millions of men and women fly to destinations all around the world for business and for pleasure. Knowing the are being looked after by the airline by careful screening processes, air marshals being randomly onboard flights, and aircraft being routinely looked over, they are more willing to put their trust in the airline.

Many of us have fears about air safety, and a serious reason for that's the media. Television and newspapers always seem to spend a great deal of time covering terrorist attacks on airplanes and airplane crashes. While thousands of planes travel every day without any event, it's the few that do have a sad ending that get spotted by the public.

Contemporary situations of pilots flying airplanes while they are drunk is a different reason why some people are reluctant to fly. For the main part though pilots and other airline crew are awfully responsible and take their job seriously. They also make sure everyone on the plane is wearing a seatbelt, all overhead compartments are closed securely, and safety issues including exists and oxygen masks have been covered.

Airports need to be the beginning of the safety by ensuring all of their staff pass background probes. They also need to be trained in security when it comes to identifying suspicious individuals. Random searches take place as people go to board their planes but not everyone is searched so it is vital to look out of those who may be a threat.

Before any one boards the airplane the aeroplane should get a total walk thru both outside and inside. This is to spot any issues that have to be taken care off before the airplane being loaded and prepared for take off.

Most airlines have a schedule for when their airplanes go in for detailed inspections and routine maintenance. Only the best airplane engineers are trusted to finish such jobs. While accidents can happen in the sky, travel by airplane is much safer than getting in your car and driving on any given day.

We all really like it and also many of us dislike it. We like to go on holiday and also people need it for business travels, but there is a disadvantage in air travel. We have now a love-hate arrangement about it, above all in these days of increased security measures. With the introduction of the dirt cheap air fare flights tickets, more of individuals are usually flying much more than ever before. It sets a strain to the large airports at the best of times and there’s an ever growing concern around the environmental effects of the airline travel.

There isn’t any worse view than a jam packed terminal waiting place having frustrated voyagers slumped on the seats, every time there are actually delays. I feel most sorry for the little children. A lot of modern families travel with their babies around the world, right after they might be far happier on their nearest beachfront. A journey to any destination coming with the best travel package deals is fantastic anytime it functions, each time it does not, it is just a pain. When we’re on the airport terminal, we are a captive audience and so they can charge all of us a king’s ransom for a coffee along with a doughnut mainly because they can.

You possibly can find good issues with traveling on a plane. You have the possibility to read a book, or sleep, most likely watch over a movie or even two. Sometimes, everybody puts together towards me going through those issues in peace. There is the garrulous passenger seated close to myself, and although I’ve known these folks just for eight whole minutes, they will tell me their life report in any detail. Some people enhance the details with the grandchildren. I attempt to look and feel attracted. Often enough during airline travel, it is safer to make-believe to be sleeping.

I must admit to liking plane foods. I’m sure I am without doubt atypical in this, but I actually enjoy the meals and little snacks. Actually, the best thing about flights for me personally often is the adorable little packages and additionally sachets they give you. The meals are generally pretty good and it is exciting to open almost everything.

The near future of flying is in a state of flux at this moment along with high security signals and everyone is on edge. The idea of getting really cheap airline deals is likely to turn into more difficult and never simplier and easier. Probably they ought to re-think the airport terminal environment. A cinema will be good or they may place a certain amount of beds inside!

With a long history as a major hub of air travel, Gatwick Airport has served as a gateway between London and the rest of the world for millions of people. However even with all the things Gatwick is famous for, there are just as many elements of its history that are not quite as evident, and can be a joy for the inquisitive historian to discover.

#1 – Architectural Advances

Gatwick unveiled the world’s first circular airport terminal (named the ‘Beehive’) in 1936. Though they are commonplace these days, it was an extraordinary achievement for the time. There was a rail link directly to the terminal, and for the first time passengers could directly board their aircraft instead of having to travel across the runway on foot or by bus. While passengers today might take the combined approach for granted, it all began at Gatwick and set the stage for future endeavors.

#2 – The Blitz

During the second World War, all available resources had to be turned toward keeping Britain safe from the German Luftwaffe. Gatwick participated when it was requisitioned by the RAF as a combat airfield, and provided service to a number of important operations necessary to keeping England’s skies clear of bombers.

#3 – Royal Attentions

Gatwick has been graced on two separate occasions with a Royal presence at important opening ceremonies. In 1956 the airport temporarily closed in order to undergo a major redevelopment, and it was Queen Elizabeth II who oversaw the ceremonies in 1958. Then, thirty years later, the Queen and Prince Phillip were also present for the opening of the new North Terminal as well.

#4 – From Jockeys to Pilots

The site where Gatwick now stands used to be used for horse racing. Now called Gatwick Airport Station, this point was originally the Gatwick Racecourse Station, and even retained this name up until the opening of the Beehive forty five years later. The course even served as a substitute for the Grand National when the bombings in World War I made it unsafe to use the original course.

#5 – Private Flying Club

Gatwick was not originally build to be a public airport. In the 20′s and 30′s, for example, it was a private flying club controlled by Ronald Waters. The Surrey Aero Club used their growing prestige to promote interest in flying in general, and helped contribute to the continued growth of the airfield, to the point that Gatwick received its first commercial flying licenses in 1934.

Pros and Cons of Air Travel

Over the past few decades air travel has been becoming popular among people. One can attribute a number of reasons for this increase in popularity and these are convenience and safety. The following are some of the positive and negative factors involving air travel.

Disadvantage: Airplanes Cause Pollution.

The major shortcoming of air travel is the pollution caused by it. Airplanes emit greenhouse gases into our atmosphere which contributes to things like global warming. This is considered as a serious drawback by people who are keen to limit the effect of global warming on the universe. ) Many airlines are trying to become more environmentally conscious these days. This can include them retrofitting their airplanes with a device called a winglet which improves fuel efficiency. In addition, most of the airlines have been modernizing their aircraft to more fuel efficient aircraft by spending a lot of money thereby reducing the emission of greenhouse gases.

Disadvantage: High Cost

One major disadvantage in traveling by air is its cost. In many instances it is inexpensive to travel by car to certain destinations instead of going by air. One way of solving the high cost air travel problem is to take advantage of discount
airline travel. If you can find a good deal for airfare it can be the deciding factor for many people whether they will fly or drive.

Disadvantage: Fear of Flying

Many people refrain from flying. This is mainly because of the fact that they were on a flight that has experienced extreme turbulence or some type of other event and this has been rather terrifying.

Advantage: Speed of Travel

One of the greatest pros about air travel is that it provides the ability to get you where you need to go much faster than other forms of transportation. While it can take days to drive across the United States, a person can fly the same distance in a number of hours. This gives you extra days for enjoying your vacations because you save a number of days by traveling by air.

Advantage: Easy to Travel Long Distances

It is possible to cover long distances by flight in a reasonably short time whereas it is difficult to cover far off destinations by other modes of transportation. Air travel to practically any destination in the world is possible. Some of these flights might prove to be quite long but they are still much shorter than if you had to rely on alternative means of transportation.

Advantage: Safety

With regards to other forms of travel, air travel is considered to be one of the safest. Each year thousands of deadly car crashes happen. On the other hand you find that the occurrence of train accidents is also quite common. This is not to say that air accidents do not take place; however frequency of such accidents is very small. For many people safety is the prime consideration for choosing air travel as compared to other form of transportation.

Choosing air travel is a personal decision, based on the factors discussed above along with a multitude factors not discussed here. For most travelers safety, speed of travel and cost are the over riding factors. As long as cost remains affordable air travel will continue to grow in popularity.

Yotel Hotel Gatwick Airport

If you have driven to any busy UK airport in recent years you will understand how important it is to pre-book your airport parking space. If you haven’t pre booked you end up paying top price for your parking space, if there is any still available.

Luckily it’s not difficult to go online and pre-book the parking space you will need. You will find that online prices are a fraction of what your parking would cost otherwise. But you could be saving even more money while enjoying a little hotel luxury before taking your flight.

If you have an early morning flight then booking yourself into a local airport hotel can be very convenient for your early morning start. An airport hotel room can be a great way to start your short break that little bit sooner. Many of the top name airport hotels provide some exceptional services. They usually provide a top quality restaurant, bars, room service and even swimming pools.

Spending a relaxed night in an hotel the night before your flight means that you will not need to rush to the airport in the morning to catch your flight.

If this isn’t enough to make you want to try a hotel room before you fly then what about some free airport parking included in the price? Many popular airport hotels are now offering some incredibly attractive deals that include a convenient airport parking space for the period of your holiday.

Airport hotels with parking provide a convenient way to save money and headaches. Even though you may have only taken a hotel room for one night the parking space provided is yours for typically 8 or 15 days.

Hotels that now provide airport parking are an example of how competition is encouraging them to provide more services that travellers want.

There are few places in South Africa that have a variety of naturally occurring tourist attractions like the Western Cape in South Africa. This is one of those destinations that you can arrive at without a tour plan because of the number of options open to you. There is the popular Garden Route which passes along Indian Ocean coastline passing through the Tsitsikamma and Outeniqua Mountains towards the mainland. It has a a variety of bird’s species, sunny beaches and beautiful blue lagoons.

If you are going to be flying to South Africa you can find flight information for flights to South Africa and flights within the country at any one of the following: cape town to durban tours, fly cape town to mmabatho, durban to cape town route

The Winelands

Here you can visit any the beautiful towns of Paarl, Stellenbosch or Franschoek, some of the buildings in these towns are centuries old and are quite an amazing sight. You can get a chance to visit some of the best wine cellars and dine in some of the best restaurants in the Cape.

The West Coast

On the shores of the West Coast is where you will be treated to the best of South African hospitality. All the restaurants have a wide variety of seafood and fish that will be served with the finest of South African wine. The West Coast provides an immaculate view of the ocean and the mountain ranges.

The Garden Route

This is also another part of the town that offers a lot in terms of sight seeing. The beautifully designed and modern beach front houses and the orthodox colonial style houses of this place will keep you in this part of town longer than you would expect. The atmosphere is just good for those who want that fresh country side feeling in a modern environment.

There are just so many other places that you could visit and see in the Western Cape; once you get there you will know what I mean. Like I said earlier it is one of the few places in the country that still has such a diverse and well preserved environment. The Western Cape is just one place that you will only get to appreciate after being there for yourself.
