Cancun is one of the most popular tourist destinations among Americans. This is hugely due to its proximity to the United States and its beaches and hotels. If you are planning to go to Cancun but are unsure of the travel requirements to get there, let us answer some of your questions including whether you need to start Applying For A Pasport to visit Cancun, Mexico.

In general, you can use any of the following travel documents when traveling to Mexico if you’re from the United States: your State-issued enhanced driver’s license, your passport card, or if you’re Applying For A Pasport. Any of these documents will allow you to freely travel to and from either country. Just present them at the airport’s boarding gate, or anywhere it is required, depending on whether you’re traveling by air, sea, or land.

If getting a regular US passport is expensive for you, or if you are not planning of leaving for another country other than Mexico, then Applying For A Passport Application will do. This is a cheaper option that fills the same purpose as a regular US passport. Take note that the processing periods for passport cards are the same as that of a passport book.

Meanwhile, we recommend you apply for a regular US passport book instead of a passport card if you are planning of traveling to other countries outside of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI). Covered areas of the WHTI are the US, the Caribbean countries, Canada, Bermuda, and Mexico. For international travel, the use of a passport book is recommended.

Just to be safe, you should apply for a regular passport book. This provides you with the ultimate flexibility in travel, as well as for instances where a regular passport book may be required. It is more expensive than a passport card, but if you are the type who regularly travels to international destinations, then the passport book will be of more use to you.

Aside from your passport, you will also need to be mindful of other travel requirements when going to Cancun, Mexico. When you arrive in Mexico, register immediately at the US Embassy or consulate nearest you. This will help the Embassy to keep track of your whereabouts in times of emergency, as well as facilitate communication between you and the Embassy should it be required.

If you are traveling with a minor to Mexico, have a notarized copy of the written parental consent ready. This letter should contain the child’s travel information such as the airlines he/she will be taking, as well as the travel schedule among other things. Along with the parental consent should be the proof of relationship between the parent and the child.

When a passport is needed as part of your visit to Cancun, Mexico, all you need to do is apply for a passport card or passport book at your nearest passport office. In there, you must fulfill all the necessary requirements to get a passport including the forms you must fill in. Once you receive your passport, you’ll be ready to hit the beaches of Cancun!
